Just as it was between 2004-2012, Special Educational Needs transport represents the cornerstone of first4care's business and our aim is to once again be a leading, pioneering operator within our local authorities.

Understanding Special Needs with our Quality of Care
Although of course all our drivers are licensed by Newark & Sherwood District Council, first4care is not a taxi company. We provide consistent crews of highly trained caring staff in specialist vehicles because many of our passengers have severe learning difficulties, autism, Asperger's syndrome, cerebral palsy and other physical or mental disabilities.

first4care believes our passengers deserve a service of the highest quality; transport that is reliable and with a consistent team that gets to know their needs. We firmly believe that we have a duty of care and responsibility to provide an enjoyable, interactive and safe environment for our service users who are among the most vulnerable in our society.

Of course our staff undergo thorough DBS Checks (Disclosure & Barring Service) to ensure they are suitable for working with vulnerable children and adults, and of course all our team is first aid trained. But we raise industry standards by going beyond the minimum requirements, all our staff are:-

  • DBS checked and suitable for work with vulnerable children & adults
  • First Aid Trained
  • Trained in Autism Awareness
  • Knowledgeable about Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults
  • Drivers are licensed through Newark & Sherwood District Council
  • Qualified with a Level II NQV / QCF in Road Passenger Transport; or Road Passenger Assistant
  • Fully capable, and certified, to secure wheelchairs & wheelchair passengers for transport
  • Trained to recognise triggers of, and minimise, challenging behaviour
  • Encouraged to engage with our service users

Acute & High Dependency SEND Transport

In addition to their fundamental S.E.N skills, our High Dependency crews have enhanced skills and training in:-

  • Epilepsy (awareness and administration of controlling drugs);
  • Airway management (Tracheostomy & Suctioning);
  • Oxygen Therapy;
  • Mic-Key button gastro feed;
  • Anaphylaxis (Epipen use)

In order to provide our bespoke High Dependency service each member of our HD team also undergoes service user specific training prior to providing the diligent care for our passengers' acute needs.
